Inkscape and Gimp :- A better replacement for Adobe Photoshop

Some of my readers may have objections when they read the Heading…” Inkscape and Gimp :- A better replacement for Adobe Photoshop”.This post is strictly from my personal experiences.
Adobe Photoshop is an excellent work from Adobe Inc. But it will be good to know that there are tools in GPL licence (Free Software) that can do a bit more than what propreitory softwares like Adobe Photoshop can do.Let me take the example of SVG ( Scalable Vector Graphics). Inkscape is a tool which is designed to work with SVG perfectly and accurately. Experts certify that Inkscape can peform much faster and accurately on SVG than what photoshop does.
I suppose you may have read my earlier post on the program ” A Window to Freedom “. There, I have published a Poster designed by Mr. Hiran Venugopalan.It was designed using Inkscape and Gimp only.

A Window To Freedom, the very first venture of FSUG, Thrissur is all set for 4 December 2008 at KERALA SAHITHYA ACADEMY HALL, THRISSUR.

He designed this poster using Inkscape Vector Graphics tool and his own font “Perizia”.

We too have an excellent brochure designed by Aparna G, Sujeshma. T.V. & Dhanashree N.P. from GEC, Thrissur.They did this splendid work using Gimp 2.6 and Scribus 1.3.
I am happy that I will be taking a session on this event and my topic is “Introduction of commonly used GNU/Linux tools”
