This was another surprising gift for me from foss.in team, especially Gopal V and Pradeepto, I got a chance to talk in foss.in about Scribus and my project work. To be frank, I was a bit nervous while taking the session, but I managed to complete it.

I demonstrated Scribus, by creating a print ready document in it. I started on with drawing shapes, adding text and so on. I also gave a small introduction on Scribus and its importance. I made some mistake while doing it, thanks to Gopal for helping me out in those situations. Now see the snaps by Sujith H.

I imported an XTG document into Scribus, which was a work done by me. But, I was unable to do “text flow around image”, I tried to do it, but missed somewhere in between. Since I was standing on the top of tension, I was unable to sort out the issue. Gopal helped me in that, it was a small issue in layers. I imported image first and the text second. Hence, the layer image was below the text frame, which prevented me from making text flow around it. Gopal came to me and told me to just bring the image layer up and it worked perfectly :) . Thanks to him!

Akarsh asked me to show my code, and I did. Gopal gave some wonderful suggestions of changing some part of my code so that I can make it much better. He wrote the new code, which was completely new to me. Thanks again to Gopal for giving me such a nice information, I promised him that I’ll change my code into the way he suggested. Since I was running short of time ( I had to catch my train from SBC, at 2140 hrs ), I left NIMHANS after taking a few more photographs.

While I was taking the session, akarsh, santhosh and more tweeted it, and one among them by Akarsh is something special for me. I keep that one close to my heart, here it goes : The highlight of the talk, more than #scribus, was @jainbasil. He stuck on when he wasn’t offered a #GSoC. That virtue is rare. #fossdotin
